The Singles Collection 1981-1993 is the first compilation by MCA which was made in collaboration with EMI. Originally planned to be released in April 1993 it was postponed because of the french EMI re-release of `84 compilation “The Very Best Of” as “Love Blonde - The Best Of”. The Singles Collection 1981-1993 contains nearly half of all previously released singles plus two bonus tracks, which were later released as singles. Also confusing was the announcement that a remixed version of her first hit “Kids In America” will included. But for some reason (MCA disliked the mixes?) “Kids In America - 1993 Remix” was replaced by “In My Life”.

The first single “If I Can´t Have You” was pretty successful around the world. The Singles Collection 1981-1993 sold well and acieved many gold and platinum awards. Later on “In My Life” was released as a single, but wasn´t as successful as the previous single. Due to the success of the album a live tour was planned for 1994. With the tour the remix of “Kids In America” was released..

The time for vinyl records nearly has gone. The Singles Collection 1981-1993 is the last album to be released on vinyl.





		The Singles Collection 1981-1993 ist die erste Compilation von MCA und entstand unter der Zusammenarbeit mit EMI. The Singles Collection 1981-1993 enthält rund die Hälfte aller bis 1993 veröffentlichten Singles sowie als Bonustracks zwei unveröffentlichte Songs, die in der Folge auch jeweils als Single herausgebracht wurden. Ursprünglich sollte The Singles Collection 1981-1993 schon im April 1993 veröffentlicht werden, doch EMI France brachte mit einer Wiederauflage der `84er Compilation “The Very Best Of “ unter dem Namen “Love Blonde - The Best Of” den Zeitplan etwas durcheinander. Verwirrend auch die Ankündigung, die Compilation enthalte einen 1993er Remix von “Kids In America”. Bei MCA war man mit den eingereichten Mixen nicht zufrieden, und so ersetzte man “Kids In America - 1993 Remix” mit “In My Life”. Die erste Single “If I Can´t Have You” wurde quasi weltweit veröffentlicht und erreichte anständige Chartnotierungen. The Singles Collection 1981-1993 selbst verkaufte sich prächtig und erhielt zahlreiche Gold- und Platinauszeichnungen. Später kam noch “In My Life” auf den Markt, doch trotz unzähliger Mixe und Remixe kam dieser Song beim Publikum nicht an und floppte. Aufgrund des großen Verkaufserfolges wurde eine große Tour für 1994 auf die Beine gestellt, auf der Kim alleine in Deutschland 16 Livekonzerte gab. Passend zur Tour gabe es dann schließlich den lange geplanten Remix von “Kids In America”. Die Zeit der guten alten Schallplatte scheint vorbei zu sein. The Singles Collection 1981-1993 ist das letzte Album von Kim Wilde auf Vinylschallplatte.
