Mit iher Debütsingle eroberte Kim Wilde die europäischen Hitparaden im Sturm. In Deutschland konnte man sie in der März-Ausgabe des ”Musikladens” zum ersten Mal im Fernsehen sehen. Kids in America enterte die deutschen Charts am 13.04.1981 und schaffte es bis auf Platz 5 (bei 32 Wochen in den Top 75, davon allein 15 Wochen in den Top 10). Der Song wurde europaweit ein Hit und ab Mitte des Jahres auch weltweit veröffentlicht

Kids In America ist nicht einfach nur ein New Wave Song - er stellt vielmehr eine regelrechte Hymne über das Leben amerikanischer Jugendlicher dar. Kids In America wird ein knappes Jahr nach der europäischen Veröffentlichung auch in Kanada und den USA auf den Markt gebracht. In den USA konnte man mit Platz 25 einen respektablen Platz in den Charts des weltgrößten Musikmarktes landen.

Kids In America wird überall nur als 7”Single veröffentlicht. Lediglich in Deutschland gibt es noch eine 12”Maxi-single, auf der abr auch nur die Singleversion enthalten ist. Kurios ist die doppelte Veröffentlichung in Japan innerhalb eines Jahres mit zwei unterschiedlichen Covers.

Her debut single became a major hit in Europe. For the first time on TV in Germany Kim did an appearance in the march issue of ”Musikladen”. Kids in America entered the german charts on April, 13^th 1981 and peaked at No. 5 (32 weeks in Top 75, 15 weeks in Top 10). Due to the huge success the single was later on released worldwide.

Kids In America is not only a new wave song - it became a hymn about the life of american teenagers. About 9 months later the single was also released in Canada and USA. Kids In America reached number 25 in the U.S. charts - in the world´s biggest music market.

Kids In America was released on 7” format only with the exception of Germany, where a 12”Maxi-Single was also avaiblabe. This format contains the single version only. A bit curious is the release of this single in Japan - whre it was released 2 times with different picture sleeves.
