“Say you really want Me” kam im Herbst 1986 als Auskopplung aus dem Soundtrack zum Film “Running Scared” (dt: Diese Zwei sind nicht zu fassen) in Kanada und USA heraus. Einen Platz in den Charts konnte man damals (noch) nicht landen.

Nach dem riesigen Erfolg von “You Keep Me Hangin´ On” (Nummer 1-Hit in USA) veröffentlichte man “Say You Really Want Me” im Sommer 1987 erneut, um dieses Mal mit Unterstützung des Videos einen kleinen Charterfolg landen zu können.

In England wurde “Say You Really Want Me” im August 1987 als dritte und letzte Single ausgekoppelt, zeitgleich mit der Wiederveröffentlichung des Albums “Another Step” mit anderem Cover und Bonustracks. Mit dem für damalige Verhältnisse sehr gewagten Video und einem Remix von Ricky Wilde erreichte man dennoch die Top 30. Das Video wurde nach kurzer Zeit aus dem englischen Fernsehen verbannt - zu gewagt und nicht geeignet für jüngere Zuschauer.

Viel Mühe und Geduld muss der Sammler aufbringen, so ist dieser Song auf unzähligen Promos und regulären Formaten erschienen. Die mit Abstand seltenste Pressung dürfte wohl die kanadische Promo-Single sein, auf dieser auch nur die Instrumentalversion zu finden ist.

”Say You Really Want Me” was originally released in autumn 1986 to promote the soundtrack for the movie “Runing Scared”. However the single did not get any chart entry yet.

After the big success of “You Keep Me Hangin´ On” (Number 1-Hit in USA) MCA re-released “Say You Really Want Me” in summer 1987. Meanwhile a video for the single was available, so the single entered the charts and became a minor hit.

In England ”Say You Really Want Me” was released in summer 1987. It was the third and last release from “Another step”, which was re-released at that time with new cover artwork and bonus tracks. The video was too hot for UK television at that time, and it was banned from TV due to explicit content. The single was remixed by Ricky Wilde.

For collectors it is hard to get all the different releases, because it was released on many promo and regular formats. The most sought after would be the canadian 7”promo with the instrumental version on it.
